Glow Spa Buffalo

Pregnancy can be a wonderfully relaxing time for women; however, as an expectant mother, you may have concerns about which spa services are safe for you to experience. Knowing which treatments you can safely undergo and those that should be avoided can help relieve your fears and stress—and help ensure a healthy and happy nine months.

Why You Should Get a Massage During Pregnancy

Pregnancy isn’t an illness, but it does throw your body for a loop. Many of my pregnant clients ask me if they can continue to get massages while expecting, and I always encourage them to do so. Some women experience muscle pain, edema or swelling (known as pregnancy pudge), headaches, or nausea when they’re pregnant. Massage can help improve circulation and combat some of these uncomfortable symptoms, such as muscle tension and back pain. Make sure the spa you go to has a specific massage for pregnant women.

What spa services to avoid when you are pregnant

Pregnant women should avoid saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzis, hot tubs and heated tile lounges. These high temperatures can raise your body temperature to dangerous levels and pose a threat to your health and your baby’s health. Additionally, you should also stay away from barber shops and nail salons that use hot wax or bleach products. Both of these things can harm an unborn child. Clary sage oil has a calming effect on the uterus, so stay away from any products that contain it while you’re expecting. As always, steer clear of unproven treatments that haven’t been tested for safety in pregnant women, like stem cell injections.

The Benefits of Getting a Facial During Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be a confusing and uncertain time for many women. During your pregnancy, it’s important to remember that you deserve to pamper yourself, too. When you feel good, it will give you extra energy to take care of your family. A facial is a great way to relax after a stressful day and prepare yourself for motherhood.
